Hello!
I'm a native Japanese speaker, with formal training in teaching Japanese as a foreign language.
There are two ways to be officially certified as a Japanese teacher (Japanese as a foreign language) in Japan.
One is completing specific classes at school for 420 hours and the other one is passing the Japanese language teaching competency test, and I got both covered!

I'm a graduate of KEC Japanese Language Institute in Kobe, Japan. I studied to become a Japanese teacher with the intenti...

Azumi is patient and very nice. A great tutor. She is prompt and professional. It was a great experience.

The old saying goes, "You get what you pay for" and this holds true here as well. Azumi was not only able to help me with what I requested, but she was able to tailor it to what I've learned from previous lessons I learned while in College. She was also incredibly patient with helping me as I stumbled through trying to remember what the word I was looking for was. I would highly recommend if you're looking for someone who's not only a native speaker, but an incredible tutor as well.

Azumi is a great Japanese tutor. She is engaging and encouraging, and is clearly very experienced and skillful at the art of teaching. On the first lesson, Azumi was able to gauge the appropriate level of material to cover. It was interesting and challenging without being too hard.
- Michael B. from Los Angeles, CA
Azumi is an excellent teacher. I feel much more confident in my Japanese. She's incredibly patient and knowledgeable, a fantastic combination. Her lessons feel specific to you and and she is very positive. She also does a good job at guiding you in your studies, which is a really hard thing to do when learning Japanese alone. Highly recommended.

Fun lesson. I'm starting to understand better when she speaks and gives directions in Japanese. Progress is good. Not surprising though.
- John P. from North Charleston, SC
Azumi sensei has a very kind and patient personality! No matter how long it takes you to solve a problem, she will try to help you out and wait patiently until the answer comes to you! I definitely recommend Azumi sensei to anyone who's trying to pick up the Japanese language!
- Daniel C. from Los Angeles, CA
Azumi is the perfect Japanese instructor for my daughter. She was amazing and my daughter is so excited for her next lesson. I don't think anyone else would have encouraged her more, Azumi is in time with what my daughter is into and can relate to her. That definitely goes a long way in my book. I hope we will be seeing Azumi every week for a very long time.

It's only been one lesson so far, but... Azumi-sensei's happy and relaxed attitude make lessons for adult learners like myself more enjoyable. She seems to have fun with it too, which makes it even better. If I make a mistake, she doesn't correct me, but prompts me to think about it and try to come up with the right answer myself. That makes it more likely I'll remember because it pushes me to actually think and work things out myself. She knows the language from a native's perspective as well as a teacher's, so it gives me confidence that I will be learning what I need to be learning. I'll be continuing my lessons with Azumi-sensei because her knowledge and her teaching style work well for me.

Azumi-san has been a great tutor. She is patient, helpful and knows her subject matter very well. She is also very friendly and the 1 hour goes by really quickly. Azumi-san can gauge your understanding and skill level very quickly and adjusts her lesson to best fit your experiences and level of learning. I am thankful I am able to learn Japanese with her.
- Kira L. from San Marino, CA
My son just love her, she make his lessons fun and he is learning a lot so fast. The best of the best.
- Sasuke L. from Saint Augustine, FL
Azumi is a great teacher. She really knows how to get a student to understand something. She moves really fast, but if anything it should help a student really remember what she says. Also, her drawings when she teaches are super cute!
- Moses P. from Glendale, CA
Bethany enjoys learning Japanese from Azumi. She make learning the language fun and Bethany is learning very fast with Azumi's help.
- Holly K. from Topeka, KS
He taught me simple words and how some phrases are put together. This was my first lesson and I had never attempted to learn Japanese before. So I have a lot of work on, but the lesson was slow and allowed me to learn well.
- Rusty C. from Charlotte, NC
Azumi is great - she's on time, she's patient, she's well prepared & she gets a lot covered. My son very much enjoys working with her.
- Kristi K. from Downers Grove, IL
Sensei is great. She makes me feel comfortable and confident. Our lessons about Japanese are perfect for me. She teaches with a smile and understands the struggle of learning a foreign language.
- Curtis S. from Miami, FL
I really liked my first lesson. I came in with a list of questions. She listened very carefully and answered all the questions. When she felt I understood she then got right into the lessons. She was very good at stopping and explaining things I had trouble with and gave me some really good "gotcha's" to look out for. I am very happy with the structure a tutor can provide and it gives me greater confidence that I can learn well in a much shorter time than doing it by myself.
- Joseph O. from North Hollywood, CA
Azumi is friendly and professional, and has a great grasp of English and Japanese. She challenges me, but is understanding and makes language learning feel relatively easy. She is very responsive to text and email.
- Kristopher D. from Manhattan Beach, CA
Azumi is a professional, well-informed teacher who makes learning fun. One meeting with her, and my son was on fire to work on his Japanese. He was working on his characters even during our vacation. Azumi capitalizes on the students' interests and makes fun suggestions that keep them interested and engaged.
- Carol G. from Pasadena, CA
Azumi is very well-prepared and well-trained in teaching Japanese. She gauges my skill level very accurately, and can anticipate common mistakes very well. To me, these are signs of having lots of experience. Her bright personality, broad life experiences and great sense of humor also make the lessons very relatable and enjoyable. All this makes it well worth my while to make the somewhat long drive to get tutored by her. I hope this review helps, and good luck to future Japanese students!
- Cliff C. from Las Vegas, NV
I just had my first session with Azumi so things are still very early. What I really like already is her enthusiasm to teach but she's also exacting about making sure you stay on top of the fundamentals being as I'm returning to studying Japanese after an absence. Looking forward to more!
