Most of us would like to go to a music festival during our lifetime. At least, that is something on my bucket list. It is an incomparable experience. You get to meet people you wouldn’t have ever met in your life; it is a wonderful place to make great memories and enjoy some of your favorite artists together.

Music festivals are simply going to change the way you look at things, but that is not up to me. You are the one responsible to change the way you look at things. I am just here to let you know that you have options.

Here are the best music festivals around the world.

1. Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, California

This music festival is, without a doubt, one of the most famous in the world. The name Coachella is recognized even if people don’t know what it is. It is simply one of the largest music festivals in the world.

You get to enjoy and appreciate the music and performances by many great artists with different styles and genres. Coachella is one of the coolest festivals because not only is it famous and a lot of people talk about it but also usually music festivals have a particular theme and they are mainly dedicated to a certain type of music. Coachella, in contrast, includes genres like rock, hip-hop, indie, and electronic dance music. It is certainly a festival for many audiences.

The Coachella 2017 lineup was remarkable, from Lady Gaga, Martin Garrix, and Kendrick Lamar to Bon Iver and Hans Zimmer. Some of the best performances caught at Coachella according to Los Angeles Times were by The Avalanches, Future, Kendrick Lamar, Belleville Three, and even Thundercat and Michael Mcdonald.

On top of all the good things mentioned above, celebrities, famous YouTubers, even “InstaCelebs” go to enjoy music like normal people. They are part of the audience as well. We could say it is a great place to see and meet famous people.

2. Tomorrowland, Belgium

Tomorrowland is the largest music festival exclusively devoted to electronic dance music. This is not a simple music festival. This one is a complete experience that combines music and entertainment. This music festival is a work of art.

This past July, Tomorrowland was celebrating the “spectacle of friendship” or, as it was called, Amicorum Spectaculum. The festival hosted roughly 360,000 guests, consisted of more than 50 stages, and featured over 1,000 artists. Performances by David Guetta, Afrojack, Tiesto, Alesso, Nervo, Don Diablo, Steve Angello, and much more were hosted at the main stage.

Tomorrowland always tries to tell its audience a story through mesmerizing performances, upbeat music, and magical stages with splendid modern light shows. It’s totally up to the public to let the story overtake them. You can either analyze the purpose of the story or be part of it. You choose.

3. Glastonbury Festival, England

Glastonbury Festival is the largest music festival in the UK and the largest greenfield festival in the world. About 175,000 people from all around the world come every year to enjoy five days of contemporary music, theater, circus, and other arts.

Glastonbury’s theme has always been influenced by hippie ethics and the free festival movement. The festival came to life in a village called Pilton in Somerset, England in the 1970s — a day after Jimi Hendrix died (The History of Glastonbury Festival).

4. Fuji Rock, Japan

As you can tell by the name, this is a rock festival held in Japan. It lasts three days and features more than 200 local and international musicians. It is the largest music event in the country and it is the cleanest festival in the world. There is an unbelievable effort put into recycling.

Fuji Rock is probably one of the most beautiful festivals in matters of the environment. The walks between stages are full of natural surprises. People go through forests, trails, and even bridges. In fact, the longest gondola lift in the world, the Dragondola, is also used by the festival goers to appreciate the event from the heights.

This festival is perfect for those who want to create a connection between their passion for music and their love for nature. This year’s lineup included Bjork, Train, The Avalanches, and Lorde.

5. Viña del Mar International Song Festival, Chile

This is certainly the largest and best-known music festival in Latin America. It’s been held annually since the 1960s in February in the Quinta Vergara Amphitheater and it usually lasts five days.

One of the coolest things about this festival is that the artists you see performing can also get awarded. Depending on the public’s reaction to the performance, artists can receive an award called “Gaviota de plata” (silver seagull).

Remarkable artists and bands — The Police, Peter Cetera, Elton John, Placido Domingo, Celia Cruz, Juan Luis Guerra, Shakira, Carlos Santana, and much more — have blessed the Quinta Vergara Amphitheater with their songs.

Viña del Mar Festival does not have a particular music genre. It hosts artists from different parts of the world and the audience is exposed to different genres and cultures. It is a great opportunity to explore new rhythms and meet people from all around the globe.

6. Sunburn Festival, India

Asia’s largest EDM music festival is held in India for four days. It has been held in the city of Goa for eight years, but last year the location was changed to Pune. The Sunburn Festival 2017 is also going to be held in Pune this December.

The festival has multiple stages and it features more than 50 artists each year. Past performances include Kygo, Carl Cox, Art department, Martin Garrix, and David Guetta.

It is also good to point out that the eye-catching production in this festival is awesome. The lighting, all the visuals, and the pyrotechnics add more to your unforgettable experience.

7. Mawazine, Morocco

This music festival is also known as “World Rhythms.” The largest international music festival held in Africa is characterized by its diverse genres.

Every year the lineup includes artists from Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. Worldwide known artists like Rihanna, AVICII, Kanye West, and Stevie Wonder have performed for thousands of people in the crowd at the Mawazine festival.

Conclusion

Music is one of the many blessings we have on earth. Music festivals allow you to open your mind to new sounds. You discover new music and expand your musical culture. On top of that, you get to enjoy some of your favorite artists along with people that are as excited to be there as you are. It doesn’t really matter if you decide to go to a small music festival, as those events are always great for making great memories and having a good time.
