By Elana Goodwin on February 18, 2015

February can be a pretty dreary month weather-wise and Valentine’s Day can either be a cause for celebration for couples or a dreaded day for singles.

Here are some perfect songs to get you through the rest of the month of February, no matter what you’re in the mood for.

Love Songs. If you are one of those people who is in a relationship or are in love with someone, these are some great songs that capture your feelings about love and relationships.

Stolen” by Dashboard Confessional. This slow and beautiful love song was the third single off Dashboard Confessional’s fourth studio album “Dusk and Summer” and came out in February 2007. It remains the band’s most successful single in the U.S. and has been used in various TV shows and movies.

1, 2, 3, 4” by Plain White T’s. Released in September 2008, the acoustic-sounding sweet love song was the second single off the band’s second album “Big Bad World.” The track became the band’s second biggest success, after their 2006 song “Hey There, Delilah.”

Other love songs to get you through February: “We Found Love,” by Calvin Harris featuring Rihanna, “Love Story” by Taylor Swift, “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis, “Wonderwall” by Oasis, and “Let Love In” by Goo Goo Dolls.

Anti-Love Songs. If you’ve just gotten out of a relationship, have been dumped, or are feeling very anti-love, these are the songs to get you through the month without going all Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” on the person.

Dance Floor Anthem (I Don’t Wanna Be In Love)” by Good Charlotte. The pop-punk song was the second single from the band’s fourth album “Good Morning Revival” and came out in the U.S. in July 2007. This tune is literally the most perfect song ever if you’re single or coming out of a relationship and will get you singing.

Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson. This power pop-rock song was the lead single from Clarkson’s second studio album “Breakaway” and won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 48th Grammy Awards. It also happens to be the perfect anti-love song for if you just broke up with somebody or are just down on love in general.

Other great anti-love songs to get you through February: “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles, “Best Thing I Never Had” by Beyonce, “Like I Can” by Sam Smith, “Gives You Hell” by The All-American Rejects, and “Thanks For the Memories” by Fall Out Boy.

Melancholy Songs. These songs capture what you’re feeling when you look outside and think about walking to class in the snow and cold.

Shadow of the Day” by Linkin Park. The band released the alternative rock song as a single from their third album “Minutes to Midnight” in October 2007. The slow tune’s got a good beat and talks about how “the shadow of the day will embrace the world in grey” which I think fits winter’s long months and short days where it gets dark out super early and the world in general looks kind of bleak weather-wise.

Think I’ll Go Inside” by Joshua Radin. This acoustic folk-y song from Radin’s third studio album “The Rock and The Tide” came out back in October 2010. Though the song refers to rain rather than snow, the same melancholy feel applies. (Plus, Radin’s from my hometown of Cleveland, and he’s awesome).

Other melancholy songs to get you through the month: “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol, “Ghost Town” by Cary Brothers, “Breathe (2 A.M.)” by Anna Nalick, “You Found Me” by The Fray, and “Chasing Pavements” by Adele.

Happy Songs. Because the weather’s so gross and frigid and just not fun outside (at least it isn’t where I am), some cheerful music may be just what you need to keep your spirits up even while it’s dark and cold out. Here are some happy songs to get you through the remainder of the month.

Pocketful of Sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield. The British singer-songwriter released the pop track in January 2008 from her second studio album of the same title. It’s been featured in several movies, most notably “Easy A” where Emma Stone went through the same cycle we all do with this song; first we hate it, then slowly we start to like it and then we can’t stop belting it out.

Happy” by Pharrell Williams. While you may be sick of the hit Pharrell song that came out November 2013, you can’t deny that hearing it perks you up and gets you singing. There’s a reason it’s one of the best-selling singles of all time and won two Grammys for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Music Video.

Other happy songs to get you through February: “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga, “Sing” by Ed Sheeran, “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift, and “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons.
