Pizza Hut: Biggest Brand Evolution to Date

By Jess Nocera on November 21, 2014

Everyone loves pizza. It’s a staple for most college students, and since everyone loves pizza there seems to be an endless supply of it. You can get frozen pizzas from the supermarkets, make it yourself, go to the local Mom-n-Pop owned pizza shop, or visit an American restaurant chain and international franchise like Pizza Hut.

Pizza Hut, as well as other pizza restaurant chains, understands the endless availability of pizza and knows it needs to stay one step ahead of the game. Yesterday, Pizza Hut released their new menu for online order, and starting Sunday, Nov. 23, it will advertise the menu on television.

Pizza Hut’s new menu, called “Flavor of Now,” is all about pizza customization. It features more than 2 billion combinations, as well a new pizza called Skinny Slice Pizzas, ten new crust flavors, four new flavor-packed drizzles, five new premium ingredients, and 11 new specialty recipes. All of these new additions are available with six signature sauces. Besides a new menu, Pizza Hut has revamped their website, created a new logo and pizza box design, and fashioned new worker uniforms.

It goes without argument that this is the biggest evolution Pizza Hut has ever made.

“It’s time for even greater flavor. We’re so excited to share all of our new flavorful menu additions. Customers have plenty of delicious options to choose from, whether it’s classic favorites or our new recipes, toppings, sauces, crust flavors and drizzles. Loaded with variety!” said Kristin Hairabedian, Marketing Manager for ADF Companies (Pizza Hut franchisee).

The Pizza Hut located here in College Park, Maryland is locally owned and operated by ADF MidAtlantic, LLC.

Pizza Hut was established by brothers Frank and Dan Carney, who at the time were students at the University of Wichita in Kansas. It began as a single pizzeria and now is not only a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, but is also, “the world’s largest pizza company.” It has over $12 billion in global sales, over 15,000 restaurants in 93 countries worldwide and employs over 160,000 people.

According to Pizza Hut’s press release, (found on pizzahutnewsroom.com), “by any measure, we are the category leader, which is a great place to start, and we believe that the additions we’ve made to our menu and the changes we’ve made to the brand overall will widen our lead on the category even more.”

This new menu still features Pizza Hut classics like Stuffed Crust, Supreme and Meat Lover’s®. Some of the new crust flavors include: Salted Pretzel, Ginger Boom Boom and Honey Sriracha. Some of the specialty recipe pizzas are BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, Buffalo State of Mind and Garden Party.

Pizza Hut has truly stepped up their pizza game, and other pizza restaurant chains should be nervous.

“This brand relaunch is just the beginning of our mission to add ‘flavor’ to everyone’s lives. We will continue to innovate and entice with new products. We are growing our digital marketing substantially, expanding our reach and relevance. We will have more attention grabbing advertising. The brand really will be constantly evolving,” said  Hairabedian.
