By Erendira Franco on September 18, 2014

The internet is a great place to discover new music, but it’s also an immensely vast place. Fortunately, there are some pretty helpful websites that round up the latest in music related content. Check them out below.

1. Complex

This site’s a great go-to for the latest in the world of hip-hop music. It features basic news on fashion, entertainment, rising and established artists, and just a whole lot of cool stuff.

2. Pitchfork

You might be familiar with the Pitchfork Music Festival; Pitchfork Media actually publishes content daily. They focus on indie music and feature everything from reviews to news on new independent artists. Check it out if you’re interested in less mainstream music.

3. Pigeons and Planes

This site’s sort of like a blend of the previous two. It focuses on independent, never-before-heard artists, but also follows the ins and outs of popular, well-known artists and their music. They even have a weekly round up with the week’s best FREE songs.

4. Fuse

This is actually an extension of the Fuse TV channel. The site includes the latest indie and mainstream music videos, news and a general hodge podge of music related content. Check it out if you don’t have access to the Fuse TV channel, which is basically like MTV before it started creating shows like “Teen Mom.” The channel features original, music related programs and specials, as well as exclusive live performances and music video blocks.

 5. 8tracks

Looking for a good study playlist ? Or some chill dubstep? Whatever you’re looking for, 8tracks probably has a playlist for it. It’s a simple concept really, just search for a certain mood, activity, artist, genre, etc. and pick from one of the user created playlists that are associated with that particular music search. You can also join the masses and create and upload your own playlists. According to the site, the playlists are streamed in a “legal, radio-style manner.” It’s similar to Pandora, but the mixes are built by people, not an algorithm.

 6. Hype Machine

This site keeps track of hundreds of music blogs to determine what’s new and trending. According to the site, they “present what they discuss for easy analysis, consumption and discovery. This way, your odds of stumbling into awesome music or awesome blogs are high.”

7. Indie Shuffle

This music site features the latests tracks, but in a neat, “shuffle” playlist format. The writers share music of all genres from all over the world, giving users a thorough overview of the latest and greatest in music.
