Reds vs. Brewers 7/22/14

By Christopher Slack on July 23, 2014

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 on Tuesday to improve to 56-45 in the National League Central.

Cincinnati scored once in the fourth, with Billy Hamilton scoring off of a Jay Bruce double to right field.  Ryan Ludwick and Brayan Pena went on to score in the seventh.

The Brewers scored all of their four runs off of four solo home runs.  Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez each homered in the bottom of the first inning.  Jonathan Lucroy would go on to homer in the sixth and again in the ninth, which ended up winning the game for the Brewers.

The Reds sit in fourth place in a very competitive NL Central.  Every team, except for the Chicago Cubs, are above the .500 mark.   The Reds are currently two games out of third place and three games out of second in the Central.

If the playoffs started today, the Reds would be three games out of the last Wild Card spot and would finish one game behind the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Currently, the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals hold the two NL Wild Cards; however, the Atlanta Braves have the same record as the Cardinals at 54-46.

Cincinnati will try to take one game from Milwaukee as the two teams face off for the third and final game of the series Wednesday at 2:10 p.m. EST at Miller Park.
